There is an increasing interest in replacing fossil fuels by regenerative and renewable sources (biomass) from agriculture and forestry. Biomass comprises wood, grass, straw, as well as farmyard manure or even energy plants like corn or rape. 14 percent of the worldwide energy demand today is being covered by biomass. However, the potential ratio is considered to be much higher in fact, as the annual increase in biomass exceeds the global demand in primary energy to a considerable extent. The main advantages of biomass are the great potential capacity, the existence of partly mature conversion technologies as well as the possibility to provide energy at the time of effective demand. Thus, the value added chain starts with the growing of plants or alternatively with supplying organic waste up to the supply of energy.
