Solar energy is a source of energy that uses radiation emitted by the sun either directly or via direct conversion into electricity and heat or cold, respectively. Solar power as an infinite resource and corresponding technologies have a great range of applications. The supply of equipment and products covering the entire spectrum of solar energy has created an important industry segment of its own during the past ten years. From the consumers' point of view, the solar energy industry can be divided into the fields of electricity generation and heat generation. The generation of electricity covers two main technologies: photovoltaics, i.e. products that allow the direct conversion of light into electric power, and solar thermal energy, i.e. the production of electric power by converting solar energy to either heat or cold.
